I have 2 coolers that have non working pumps. One is a Bernard and one is a Tweco. They both use the procon series 1 pump. These are rotarty vane pumps. The Bernard is a larger unit with a motor that runs off of 220. The Tweco is smaller and it runs off of 110.I was just wondering if anybody had a good source for parts for these things. I have found a place in the bay area that rebuilds them, but I have not contacted them yet. When I worked at a shop many years ago I remember having to replace the vanes myself, so I thought that if I could find the parts, why not do it myself. If I remember right, they came in a kit - like a plastic bag stapled shut with vanes and pins included. The part that I need for both pumps is like a ceramic type piece that is right behind the cover plate.Any information/help is much apreciated.ps I just got a new camera, so please bear with me while I try to figure it out.click on pic for larger versionLast edited by Mark...; 07-21-2008 at 02:35 AM.
Reply:If you find the kit, let me know. I need to rebuild mine also.
Reply:you can buy the pumps pretty reasonable as new. there are also another brand ( cant remember the name this second ) that makes a direct replacement for @ 125.00Fleabay regularly has complete units ( search carbonator ) for less than 50 dollarsPartshttp://www.proconpumpscanada.comhttp://www.proconpumps.com/insert thoughtful quote from someone else2000 Thermal Arc 300GTSW 3.5 hours1946 Monarch 20 x 54 Lathe1998 Supermax 10x54 Mill2004 Haco Atlantic 1/2" Capacity Lasernot mine but i get to play with it
Reply:Thanks for the link, Chenry.Looks like they will have the kits and parts. If they don't have them, I don't think anyone will. I'm sure no one else carrys them because they want to sell a pump. I will have to call them to find part/kit numbers.Probably next week 'cause I gotta go across state to work for a couple days. Don't think I will have time until then. Really no hurry, I am just tired of knowing that I have all these sitting around not functioning.Last edited by Mark...; 07-22-2008 at 01:09 AM.
Reply:I don't think it's worthwhile to rebuild Procon Pumps. They are available on eBay almost daily at reasonable prices for new pumps. I've bought three new ones in the past year and the most expensive was $35 plus shipping. By the time you disassemble one, replace the vanes, bearings and seals, you could have bought one for less than what you paid to buy the parts, not counting your time. The link below shows how to read the Procon codes to determine which one you are lookng at. Hope this helps. http://www.piecesml.com/english/en-p..._2_matrix.htmlLast edited by gnm109; 07-22-2008 at 01:48 AM.
Reply:That is helpful Gmn109. I will probably do both(new pump and kits) seeing as both units use the same pump and Really would be nice to have a spare around. I can't really get away from the kits--I think its some sort of mental problem with me.
Reply:Have you tried contacting Procon to see if they will sell you one directly or refer you to a distributor? Don't try removing the mechanical seal unless you intend to replace it, they are $$$.
Reply:I emailed Procon yesterday afternoon to see if they would sell direct or provide me with a supplier. Tried calling, but the automated phone system didn't help much.Waiting for a reply to my email.
Reply:Mark...I used to use a 660 in a fire fighting foam application and got my parts from a Dallas distributor in a day or two. It's been a couple years since I've used them and I can't locate their contact info so I'll check at work on Monday.Have you looked on e-bay as gnm109 suggested? Procons are all over the place there.Just the same they're a cinch to rebuild - 10-15 minutes start to finish with clean-up and putting your tools away. Keep the mechanical seal surfaces clean with alcohol or brake clean and DO NOT use any lube on the seal surfaces. A little silicone lube on the shaft helps get it through the inner portion of the seal or you could use a VERY light application of petroleum jelly. The key is to keep from getting anything on the carbon graphite seal or ceramic insert contact areas or it may not seal.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110Save Second Base!
Reply:I called a few places about kits and they wanted something like $160 for the kit, and $180-250 for a rebuilt pump. I think I'll just kep an eye on ebay.
